Reading & Peanut Butter

Christopher is doing a great job reading - we learned with hooked on phonics last summer, and he has been ahead of the curve all year. His teacher just recently began testing her readers so they can begin checking out books from the library, and CMav tested at a 2nd grade level! So now we are bringing home books almost every night to read, and he takes a computerized reading comprehension test about the book, and on we go! It is a wonderful opportunity for him and I am so thankful that he is so excited to be reading books as fast as he can get his hands on them! YAY! :)

Sammie and I have started in to the phonics books again - she is constantly comparing herself to Christopher and wants to read as well as he does. I told her she will be as good a reader when she is in kindergarten (no doubt!) but she insists that she needs to get it done NOW. :) I will support that! She is reading 3 letter words and short 8-page books using "a" and "i" right now! :)

For most of the school year, Christopher has requested bologna in his lunch - no bread, just the bologna (and string cheese). About a week ago, he started complaining that the bologna tasted funny. We opened 2 more packs, and he still said that they tasted funny. So last night, I asked him, "how about a peanut butter sandwich?" and he said, "Sure!" So with some disbelief, I went ahead and put a sandwich in his lunch today. He has never liked sandwiches - I keep trying and he has always declined or said it tasted icky. But today, he ate EVERY BITE of that peanut better sandwich! Crazy! I'm so relieved to have a main "protein" in his lunch I know that he will eat again. Whew!

Thanks for reading my silly ramblings. I'm so proud of the kiddos and having so much fun being involved in their schooling.
